Who we are

Fybre Studios is a contemporary tufting studio based in Greenside, Johannesburg. As the leading tufting studio in South Africa, our practice sits between interior design, material exploration, and contemporary art.

What we do

Alongside introductory workshops, we offer advanced and artist-level classes for those looking to deepen their technical and conceptual understanding of tufting. These classes emphasise hands-on learning, small group instruction, and personalised mentorship as students are guided through the tufting process from design ideation through to finished product.

What we believe in

Despite its long and layered history, textile art has often been marginalised as ‘just a craft’ due to its association with femininity and domestic labour. By expanding perceptions of African and traditionally feminine art forms, we advocate for textile work that is conceptually rigorous, materially rich, and culturally relevant.

What we’re building

At Fybre Studios, we aim to challenge preconceived notions about tufting by increasing layman accessibility to textile art forms while maintaining a high standard of craftsmanship and artistic integrity. Our long-term vision is to connect local and international creatives while expanding the possibilities of tufting across art, design, and cultural exchange.
