Learn how to make your own rugs, from choosing the design and stretching the fabric at the start to gluing and carving the rug at the end. This class includes advanced Korean tufting techniques. Students will have a full frame to use for either one large rug or multiple smaller rugs. This class includes free scheduled use of the studio and all of its equipment and materials, as well as a design consultation and mentoring in advanced techniques using extended equipment and materials.

Month-long after-hours classes, running every Thursday evening. After-hours classes start on the first Thursday of every month and continue weekly for four sessions. Learn the basics of tufting a rug from beginning to end, and graduate with a Fybre Studios certification. The course will include: Lesson 1 - Stretching basics and introduction to tufting Lesson 2 - Completing the tufting and glueing your rug Lesson 3 - Putting backing on the rug and shaving and trimming Lesson 4 - Carving your rug

Tufting is a textile art technique used to create rugs and soft artworks by punching yarn through a stretched fabric using a tufting gun.
Yes. Safety guidelines and proper handling of tufting guns are covered at the start of each workshop, and close supervision is provided throughout.
No prior experience is required for beginner workshops. Our advanced artist classes are also available for beginners however the classes are more in depth and include more techniques.
In beginner workshops, participants typically create a small rug or textile piece. Advanced artist classes focus on larger works or 3D sculptures.
Workshop duration varies by class. Beginner sessions usually run from 3 hours to a full day or multiple shorter sessions, while advanced and artist classes take place over several sessions to allow for deeper learning and completion.
All tools, materials, yarn, and equipment are provided during the workshop. You will also receive guided instruction and support throughout the process. Additional equipment and materials are available for the artist classes.
Yes. Participants are encouraged to bring reference images or original designs. Designs will need to be confirmed no later than 4pm the day before your lesson to have us trace your design for you. Walk-ins and same day bookings will have to draw their designs themselves. Please refer to the design guide.
All rugs are to be completed during the allocated time slot (according to the class size). However if you need more time, you can do either of the following for an extra fee: If you would like to return to finish your rug yourself: R100 if 25% or less of the rug is left to complete R200 if more than 25% is left to complete Request instructor to finish it for you: R200 if less than 25% remains R300 if more than 25% remains Please note that you will have to return to the studio within 2 weeks, to complete your rug. After that you will have to pay us to complete your rug, then come and collect it within 1 month. Failure to do so will result in us donating your rug to charity.

Classes are suitable for ages 12 and above. Our Clawlab guns are available for ages 8 and above. Please inform us if you would like to book a lesson with the clawlab guns.
Yes. Fybre Studios offers one-on-one sessions, private group bookings, corporate team-building workshops, and special event workshops.
Yes. Fybre Studios offers advanced and artist classes with deeper technical training, more hands-on guidance, and extended studio access.
Mini rugs are available to take home 30 minutes after the lesson is complete. All other sizes will be available within 7-10 working days.
Comfortable clothing and closed shoes are recommended. Tufting can be messy, so avoid wearing anything precious.

Workshop bookings are non-refundable, but rescheduling may be possible changed a week prior to the booking. Studio sessions deposits are non-refundable if cancellation occurs within 72 hours of the lesson.

All finished rugs will be shaved down, but carving will be charged at R200-R300 depending on the complexity of the design.
A max of 2 designs are allowed for coaster sessions.
